Founded in 2003 by The Peninsula Gateway, the Students of Distinction program has honored more than 400 graduating seniors from the Peninsula School District. The program became a sponsored fund of the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation in 2013. The program has provided over $200,000 in scholarships through the GGHF and local sponsorship.

Each year in February, 36 high school seniors are nominated by teachers, peers, parents, or community members in any of these seven categories:

  • Academics
  • Athletics
  • Business Entrepreneurship
  • Community Service
  • Music
  • Drama and Arts
  • Overcoming Adversity
  • Science and Technology

For six weeks beginning in April, The Peninsula Gateway features vignettes highlighting the students’ accomplishments.

Our 2017 Students of Distinction will be announced soon.
