Brian McLean is the chair of the Students of Distinction program, which The Peninsula Gateway started in 2003 as a way to recognize outstanding achievement from graduating seniors in the Peninsula School District. Since then, the program has grown to honor 36 graduating seniors annually with post-secondary scholarships in seven different categories: Academics, Athletics, Business & Entrepreneurship, Community Service, Music, Arts & Drama, Overcoming Adversity, and Science & Technology.
Brian currently works as the Communications Coordinator for Peninsula Light Co. Previously; he spent 17 years in the newspaper business, including seven as the editor for the Gateway. He has been involved in several other community-oriented projects. He’s a board member for both the Gig Harbor Chamber of Commerce and the Peninsula Schools Education Foundation, and a former board member for the Gig Harbor Film Festival. He graduated from Washington State University in 2003 with a degree in communication. He and his wife, Stacie, live on the Key Peninsula, and their son, Mason, started school as a kindergartner this fall at Evergreen Elementary.
